What is an Energy Center?

The energy centers of the body are a guide to work with on your healing journey. The energy centers have significance and meanings that allow us to imagine a bigger picture and a deeper look inside.

The word “chakra” is another word for “energy center” and comes from an ancient language known as Sanskrit. Chakra means vortex, spinning wheel or circle. According to Vedic Healing, chakras are the major energy centers of spiritual power in the human body and are circles of energy which balance, store and distribute the energies of life all through our physical body along the subtle body. The subtle body is the non-physical body or otherwise known as our soul or spirit, which overlays our physical body.

The earliest records of Ayurvedic medicine and chakras dates back to around 2500 B.C. in India. The word Ayurvedic comes from two Indian words Ayur meaning “life” and Veda meaning “knowledge”. Ayurvedic or life knowledge medicine may be interpreted as knowledge on how to lead a healthy life. Ayurvedic medicine observes illness as imbalances in the body. These imbalances may be treated with a mixture of meditation, physical exercise, essential oils and sound therapies.

Imagine chakras as circles of energy, flowing all the way through our body. These circles of energy assist in the running of our mind, heart, body and soul. If an energy center is not performing correctly, this could cause our physical, mental, and energetic selves to experience pain, discomfort or dis-ease. Although there are hundreds of energy point on our body, we will work with the seven main energy centers as our guide. These chakras start at the base of the spine and move upwards to the last one at the crown of the head. They coincide with the positions along the spinal cord of the major nerve ganglia in our physical body.

Throughout this course, we will fine tune and re-align all of the energy centers with each healing session. We will practice focusing on individual areas of the body related to a physical or emotional difficulty we may be experiencing. For example, if we have a nervous stomach and feel powerless about some issue in our life, we can focus on the third energy center and place our hands there.

I have created a chart below that provides a quick overview of what each energy center represents and the sounds to help you connect with your voice to each chakra.
