Creating Safe Space and Grounding

WEEK 1

Introduction | Creating Safe Space and Grounding

What makes you feel safe? We will explore what safe is for each of us and create that space within the mind. We will become aware of patterns we practice so that we are able to consider changing them if that feels best. We will practice creating new focal points to work with to replace any outdated thought patterns or behaviors that may not be serving us anymore. Grounding and feeling our connection to this body and the earth is an important part of this process as well.

TOOL / EXERCISE

I recommend sitting in a comfortable chair that you have intentionally set aside for meditation. When we create a space with intention, the mind becomes trained to know that space for that purpose. You can also practice doing this in bed before you sleep at night. It all depends on whether you would like to do conscious or dream time work.

It is best to begin this work by grounding ourselves. I suggest working with the image of what it would look like for you to have tree roots growing out of the bottom of your feet. Maybe you’re a tall and wise oak tree? Maybe, you are able to imagine what it would feel like as well? Are your roots thick and strong? See them deeply connecting you into the core of the earth and feel the connection in your body. You are welcome to work with this visual or create something that works best for you. Do your best to feel yourself grounded and connected to a foundation of some sort.

Begin by taking some deep breaths, in through your nose and out through your mouth. Maybe you count the breath in for 7 counts, hold the breath for 7 counts, and then breathe out for 7 counts. Do this for a few minutes as your body and mind relax.

On the breath out, imagine in your mind what it would look like for all the negative, unloving thoughts to leave the body with that breath out. On the breath in, imagine a beautiful white healing light entering your body at the toes and working its way up to the top of your head. Imagine the warmth of the light and how it would feel moving through your body. Part by part, organ by organ, moving through the blood in your veins and touching every cell of your BEing. Breathing it in more and more each time. Once you have filled the body with white light, imagine your own light, your own picture of unconditional love. The picture can be of anything, there is no “right” or “wrong”. Simply allow your mind to show you the first thing that reminds you of this love and place it in your heart. Imagine the picture in your heart center and feel the warmth of the love there.

Then, in your mind’s eye, create a bubble around you. Imagine one of those soap bubbles from the little plastic jars with the wand in it. Allow yourself to see the beautiful effervescent blue, pink and gold colors swirling around you as you look out from inside the bubble. Feel the warm, soft, inviting space surrounding you. A safe and sacred space that you create in your mind. Invite your mind to be there with you and to allow everything outside to be in existence while your focus remains within the bubble. Allowing inside and outside to exist in harmony.

I encourage you to practice being in this space as you enter into your meditation, or quiet time with your Self. Once we give the mind a safe place to hang out, we are able to peel back more layers of emotions without fear because we have a focal point to return our attention. I invite you to practice this meditation and create your own as you hone your skills.

Awareness Point

K1 acupressure point (to support in feeling grounded)

Work with the acupressure point above and follow where you feel it in your body. Practice with this point while focusing on your breathing with the technique below each week.

Breathing Technique: Breathe in through the nose for a count of 7. Hold for a 7 count of 7 and breathe out through the mouth for a count of 7. Repeat this 11 times.

Weekly Quote: Worthiness, in very simple terms, means I have found a way to let the energy reach me, the Energy that is natural, reach me. Worthiness, or unworthiness, is something that is pronounced upon you by you. You are the only one that can deem yourself worthy or unworthy. You are the only one who can love yourself into a state of allowing or hate yourself into a state of disallowing. There is not something wrong with you, nor is there something wrong with one who is not loving you. You are all just, in the moment, practicing the art of not allowing, or the art of resisting. ~ Abraham Hicks

Meditation: Practice creating safe space and grounding.
